We used one of these. Would not recommend as it caused our chimney flue to sag at the joints and we now have to have it repaired.

My family and I have been using this product for years and we love it! I've found I don't have to clean my chimney as often and I seem to go through less wood (win win!). I have been using smartburn since the beginning. Every year I buy 2 for the winter. The fire is generally burning very hot (blue flame has been seen) & there is less ash left behind. I do recommend Smartburn for your wood fires.
